Last month, we installed 111 artworks at the William @OslerHealth System Cancer Care unit of Brampton Civic Hospital. The installation combined a range of paintings along with photographs by Canadian photographer @ShermanHines strikingly rendered on metal by @posterjack.

One year ago, the ArtWorks for Cancer team embarked on a memorable and rewarding adventure. They carefully transported a precious cargo of paintings from Toronto to Sudbury for installation at Health Sciences North (@hsnsudbury). Over 100 works were installed throughout the cancer centre and chemotherapy suites.

There are so many ways to enjoy the soothing artistry we bring to clinical settings.

The Surgical Oncology unit of @UHN @TorontoGeneralHospital has found yet another way! They have numbered all of the 24 images by photographer @ShermanHines (strikingly rendered on metal by @posterjack) ... and the hospital staff are trying to guess the province/territory and they get bonus points if they guess the city.

The entire team is playing and the unit's physiotherapist has observed that while she walks with older patients, they go around and recognize some of these places. Current patients are also walking around and giving hints and tips to the staff. How wonderful that these beautiful works are bringing staff and patients together!

Instrumental to the installation at the Surgical Oncology unit of @UHN @TorontoGeneralHospital was the work of @Posterjack, whose team created the presentation of the striking images - all by photographer @ShermanHines - using a refined metal print process. Not only are the images rendered in large format and crisp resolution, but they are placed on metal, which makes them easy to clean and maintain. This is a particularly important requirement in sensitive medical facilities and settings.

"Our unit looks amazing with the transformation. So refreshing to come and see this on Monday morning and every single day of the week!"

When an ArtWorks for Cancer installation beautifully and often dramatically changes a facility`s look and atmosphere, it offers comfort to the patients and their families spending so much time in what is sometimes an unhappy or fraught environment. It`s important to remember that various medical practitioners also spend extensive amounts of time in these same places. Arresting artworks offer calm and inspiration and make a difference in their workplace, too.

We were wonderfully reminded of this when we installed 24 new artworks in the Surgical Oncology unit of University Health Network (@UHNToronto) @TorontoGeneralHospital earlier this month (November 2023). As we prepared and integrated the specially prepared high resolution images of photographer @ShermanHines, our team was supported and cheered on by the nursing team in this unit, which made the whole experience especially energizing and uplifting. We`re so glad the nurses will also be able to enjoy these images every day.

Kudos to @Posterjack, an ArtWorks for Cancer supporter who were instrumental in creating the presentation of these images using a refined metal print process. Not only are the images rendered in large format and crisp resolution, but they are placed on metal, which makes them easy to clean and maintain. This is a particular important requirement in this sensitive facility.

Our hearts are still aglow remembering our trip to Sudbury this spring, to install over 100 works at Health Sciences North / Horizon Santé-Nord (@HSNSudbury), throughout the cancer centre and chemotherapy suites.

Patients and families, as well as Health Sciences North staff, are deriving inspiration and solace from the arresting artworks gracing the walls of this incredible facility. In a recent thank you video Health Sciences North presented to ArtWorks for Cancer, staff highlighted the "joy, happiness and points of conversation" the works spark, and how they "instill confidence" and are "calming and peaceful" for patients and practitioners alike.

This work by Karisik, entitled "The Solo Swim (Peggy's Cove, NS)", was installed at the entrance to the Cancer Centre.

Patients and families, as well as Health Sciences North staff, are enjoying and finding comfort in the range of beautiful artworks now beaming from the walls of this incredible facility. More images and updates are coming soon showcasing this very special project.
