In May 2022, we installed 45 artworks at the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre in Newmarket, part of the Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to gather artwork donations and to plan future installations. We are now able to start returning to install the artworks that make such a profound difference to patients, their families and health-care providers in clinical and palliative settings.

Follow the link in our profile for more information and pictures of how beautiful art pieces so generously donated transform these settings and so powerfully raise everyone's spirits.

"The visual arts can bolster spirits, reduce stress and calm anxieties for family members and even contribute positively to patient health outcomes," observed artist @AnjaKarisik as she recently presented six pieces to ArtWorks for Cancer.

One of the pieces from her generous donation, “Mare Cognitum”, has been installed in the newly renovated Breast Health Centre at Markham Stouffville Hospital (@mshospital).

In 2021, we installed 39 artworks at the Mario & Nick Cortellucci Hospice Palliative Care Centre of Excellence in Vaughan (@hospicevaughan). This installation was possible during pandemic constraints because we were able to place all artworks in this newly constructed facility before patients took up residence.

Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to gather artwork donations and to plan future installations, when we are able to safely return to the settings

We were recently invited to choose from Barbara Caruso’s collection for Artworks for Cancer. This is just one of the pieces we chose and we can’t wait to hang it at our next installation. Photographed with the artwork is Catherine Stevenson, Dr. Michael Weinberg, Suzan Yates

BARBARA CARUSO (1937 - 2009) was a Canadian artist, author, teacher and independent thinker. She was born in Kincardine, Ontario, and lived and worked in Toronto until 1985 when she moved to Paris, Ontario with her husband, poet Nelson Ball. Barbara and Nelson’s home and workspace has been documented in a film (http://bit.ly/BallCaruso) by Catherine Stevenson and their papers have been donated to McMaster University.
